Hello from Lyra Press! And a little about us...

Hi everyone!

We've just noticed that this blog has been sorely neglected while we focus on all the goings-on of product development and site maintenance, so we thought we'd say a quick 'hello' and tell you a little bit about us, how we got started, etc.

We are Crystal and Jorge, soon-to-be husband-and-wife (so many dashes!) team behind Lyra Press, which functions as both an online shop and an illustration studio. We met in architecture grad school, where we shared a studio desk and eventually became inseparable. After a few years working in corporate architecture firms, we decided that it was only natural to return to working together in a studio :)

Lyra Press co-founders and behind the scenes

Aside from design, we both share a passion for learning about other languages, other cultures, and about the natural world. We love to learn and love design – and we have always talked about how art/design could be used as a fun, beautiful educational tool in everyday life.

We started off with the idea of hand-illustrated ‘virtual flash cards’ (@lyrafrench) to teach each other our native languages (more on our backgrounds later), but soon our imagination ran wild. For example, we designed one of our most popular prints, the Seasonal Fruits & Vegetables Art Print, because we personally wanted something that could help us figure out what foods were in season – and could still serve as beautiful décor – in our home.

We base each graphic on something we want to know more about in our own lives, and we hope that you can benefit from our designs as well! We want to spread the idea that art can be simultaneously beautiful and functional for everyday life.

In the coming weeks, we will be updating you with more about us, some behind-the-scenes, and weekly inspirations from other creative businesses! We would love to hear from you if you have any feedback or just want to say hi!

Thanks for reading :)

Crystal + Jorge
